Barney & Friends is a 1992 children's television show produced in the United States aimed at preschool children. The series features the title character Barney, a purple anthropomorphic Tyranosaurus Rex who conveys learning through songs and small dance routines with a friendly, optimistic attitude.
The show has been criticized for its lack of educational value: "his shows do not assist children in learning to deal with negative feelings and emotions. As one commentator puts it, the real danger from Barney is denial: the refusal to recognize the existence of unpleasant realities." However, studies conducted by Yale researchers Dorothy and Jerome Singer have confirmed that episodes actually contain a great deal of age-appropriate educational material, calling the program a "model of what preschool television should be."

- There are a lot of names that can lead to confusion, misunderstanding or even chaos when coded into another language. My name is definitely one of them. Many people guess I am a boy from my last name "He", which actually means "why, how, what..." in Chinese and reads like "Huh" instead of "Heeeee". Years of questioning and misunderstanding fosters in myself a habit of explaining the unclear and a desire to reveal the unknown. As a master student in Harvard Ed school, I am interested in exploring all kinds of approaches teachers and parents can adopt to meet different needs of students without sacrificing the entertaining features or lowering the standard. My objective of opening this blog is to provide academic findings, teaching materials and other relevant resources for those who want to try another way to teach or learn.
